Sneaky Leprechaun
Last week was St. Patrick's Day which, to be honest, we've never really done much for in the past. So, this time I decided to get a little more into it. A friend of mine had gave me a darling file of cute notes to use on a treasure hunt. I was telling another friend about the ideas she gave me and Ethan overheard the following...leprechaun....treasure hunt...pot of gold. When I was off the phone, he immediately started asking questions. What is a leprechaun? Does he come to our house? What does he look like? (we had to look on google images for pictures). Anyway, I was in too deep now - I had to deliver.
So, I explained that a leprechaun may come to our house on St. Patrick's day and mess thing up, because they like to cause trouble. They might also leave notes for a treasure hunt that lead to a pot of gold. But, you have to be wearing green or they might pinch you. (This story evolved as he kept digging for answers.) This left me in trouble - I had no pot of gold prepared. So, after a trip to the park, I discreetly went to store after store after store looking for gold coins. NO LUCK! So, I settled for some gold rolos and an Obi Wan pez dispenser. Before we left the house to run another errand, I did some damage by flipping furniture over, opening cabinet doors, etc. to make it look like a silly leprechaun had come.
When we came home, Ethan went nuts! He went room to room looking at the silly things the leprechaun had done. Then he saw the note! We went note to note until he finally found the pot of gold left by the leprechaun. It was really fun and cute. I guess now I've really set myself up to deliver on that tradition for the years to come!
That night we decorated the table and I made an Irish meal of corned beef, potatoes, shamrock jello jigglers and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Unfortunately Blake had to work late so we didn't really get to enjoy the meal together. I think next year I'll make green pancakes and call it good!
Damage from that silly leprechaun!
